NYC Restaurants + Bars Still Operating Delivery / Pick Up | Guides

During these trying times, it can be easy to fall into a negativity spiral. To get through the day, it’s important to focus on positivity and to seek comfort in the familiar. Food is something that can help break down barriers and bring us closer together. It’s no surprise that celebrations, special moments and memories often take place over a bountiful feast.

As a couple of kids who grew up in restaurant families, we know firsthand the importance of coming together to share a meal. However, we also understand that this is not a possibility in the current climate; as we all do our part to socially isolate and flatten the curve. This is bad news for restaurants and the service industry at large. Operating a dining establishment is to face razor thin margins and high overhead. Correspondingly, working a service job means relying on tips to prop up wages and and oftentimes having limited or no health insurance.

The current national emergency has wreaked havoc on the dining industry, causing many restaurants (especially smaller local spots) to close up shop. The industry is scrambling to find ways to stay afloat as we navigate through these unprecedented challenges. Some establishments fight on by continuing offer pick-up and delivery options.

We know that many of you have been affected by these developments. But for those who are in a position to weather the storm, please consider helping out those in need. Below, you’ll find a list of restaurants in the Manhattan and Brooklyn areas (more to come) where you can order for pick-up or delivery. Order lunch, dinner or even a snack to help these businesses keep the lights on. For New Yorkers, ordering delivery should help bring a sense of normalcy to your day!

We’d like to show some extra love to the Asian restaurants on the list, as they have been hit hardest due to misplaced xenophobia or racism. We urge you to consider placing an order at one of these spots as they deserve the business just as much as anyone else.

If ordering out isn’t the move for you, then consider signing this change.org petition. The movement is called ‘Save America’s Restaurants’ and calls on lawmakers at every level to take action that would help those who have been affected, and to keep this industry from tanking. You can also check out City Harvest + Food Bank NYC and make a donation if possible.

Cheers, stay safe and keep those spirits high!
